Just finished The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It came out a few years ago. I remember the buzz it had and also garnered some great reviews. It's crime fiction with a big helping of love story and some comic relief. Loved that Voltaire's Candide was mentioned. Optimism, channeled through FermÃn Romero de Torres, plays a role in this absorbing and entertaining book.
